Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know the pieces I order are authentic?
Every piece listed on the Kavador site has been inspected by Kavador’s GIA-certified gemologists. Each piece is assessed for its condition, workmanship and the quality of gemstones to ensure authenticity. Items that do not meet our standards will not be listed.
Kavador’s gemologists create a valuation report for every piece – the valuation report includes the approximate weights of precious stones, details of the precious metal and any signatures on the piece. The valuation report also includes an ‘estimated valuation’ figure, which represents the expected replacement cost you may need to pay to purchase or recreate a similarly designed item.
What if the piece doesn’t suit my style when I receive it?
Kavador offers FREE shipping and FREE returns. If for any reason you are not satisfied, you can return your piece for FREE in its original purchase condition and packaging within 14 days of receipt of delivery.
Please see our Shipping page for more information on returns.
Where does Kavador source jewelry?
Kavador partners with independent fine jewelry stores, designers and collectors across the US – many of whom have vaults full of exquisite jewels that would otherwise be impossible to find online.
Why is the Kavador price lower than the ‘Valued At’ figure?
As an online marketplace, Kavador operates at a lower cost than traditional fine jewelry ‘brick and mortar’ stores – we are able to pass these savings on to you.
Why do you only sell one of each piece?
Kavador’s goal is to give our customers access to bold, beautiful and one-of-a-kind pieces that are not currently available online. Kavador’s curators source individual pieces from the vaults of independent retail jewelers.
What is the difference between fine jewelry and costume/fashion jewelry?
The difference between fine jewelry and costume/fashion jewelry is the quality of the metal used in the jewelry and the authenticity of the stones set into the pieces. Fine jewelry is constructed of solid gold, sterling silver or platinum and made with natural gemstones, diamonds and pearls (including cultured pearls as these are still natural pearls). Costume or Fashion jewelry is typically constructed of inexpensive mass produced materials and plated with precious metal. Often a non-precious metal (like brass) is used as the base with a thin coat of precious metal applied to the top. Costume or Fashion jewelry contains manufactured or synthetic stones such as cubic zirconium, rhinestones or glass.
In recent years the cost of some costume/fashion jewelry has increased enormously despite the lower cost of craftsmanship, metals and stones. At Kavador, we believe if you are going to invest in a piece of jewelry it should be exactly that – an investment that you can keep and pass down to future generations. In order for jewelry to last for generations, it must be well constructed from precious metals and precious stones.
How do I know what ring size I am?
Simply print out our ring sizer tool to confirm your size.
What if I buy a ring and it doesn’t fit?
The majority of rings are easy to resize either smaller or larger. Every ring listed at Kavador includes our gemologists’ assessment of the ease of re-sizing the ring. At the time of ordering, we are happy to re-size your ring for you (the cost will depend on the ring, some will be free and others may incur a small fee). You can also take your ring to any local reputable fine jeweler for re-sizing.
I don’t have pierced ears – how do I know which earrings I can wear?
All earrings will be listed as either ‘Clip-Back’ (for non-pierced ears), ‘Post-Back’ which have a post to go through pierced ears or ‘Clip and Post-Back’ which means they are designed for both pierced and non-pierced ears. If you buy earrings that work for either and want the post removed, we can typically do this before we ship the earrings out to you. Please email email@example.com if you have any questions about earrings.
What if my item is damaged on arrival?
In the unlikely event of a piece getting damaged in transit, please call us immediately to let us know and we will send out a UPS label for you to return the piece – if the piece can be easily repaired, we will repair and re-ship it to you free of charge. Alternatively, you may opt for a refund or a credit toward a different piece.
What if I return a piece and it goes missing in transit, do I still get a refund?
Every shipped piece is covered by Kavador’s insurance until the time you sign for delivery. If you decide to return the piece, we will email you a UPS label. Once the piece has been dropped off or collected by UPS, it is covered by our insurance – you will need to get a tracking receipt that confirms that the item is in the possession of UPS. If you use any other method to return a piece and it goes missing, we will be unable to provide a refund.
